BOC Gases Ireland launches Refrigerant Recovery Service

24 September 2010

BOC Gases Ireland is the first company in Ireland to launch a Refrigerant Gas Recovery Service. BOC Gases have the necessary authorisations in place with the Environmental Protection Agency to collect waste refrigerant gas. BOC are also approved by the National Irish Trans Frontier Shipment office and the UK Environment Agency to send the waste gas to our facility in the UK for recovery or disposal.

The sale and use of virgin HCFCs including R22 has been banned since 31st December 2009. Reclaimed R22 may be sold and used until the end of 2014 when a total ban will apply. BOC Gases Ireland will have reclaimed R22 available for sale during this time.

Venting or leaking fluorocarbon refrigerants into the atmosphere causes damage to the environment. This has prompted tighter legislation regarding the containment of refrigerant and the prevention of illegal release to the atmosphere.

BOC Gases Ireland Refrigerant Recovery Service will allow for full compliance with existing European legislation in relation to proper management of waste refrigerants.

BOC will provide full details to our customers in relation to whether their waste gas has been recovered or incinerated.

BOC operates a 'cradle-to-grave' refrigerants business.

Recovery Service

Our recovery service provides purpose built designated recovery cylinders into which customers can fill their waste refrigerant. Our packages are available in 8kg, 53kg or 800kg cylinders/drums.

We will subsequently collect these packages and return them to our facility for analysis. If the gas is of the requisite quality it will be recovered and no charge applies, if not an incineration charge will apply.
