NITROBOOST Augmented Refrigeration

Uses liquid nitrogen to enable freezers to reach and maintain target operating temperature faster and more efficiently

NITROBOOSTTM is a liquid nitrogen-powered supplemental refrigeration system that gives processors the ability to maintain target operating temperatures in their existing (often underperforming or overloaded) mechanical tunnel, blast and spiral freezers. This can avoid production downtime and related temperature issues that occur from high heat loads that exceed mechanical freezer capacity, resulting in improved refrigeration capacity and food quality.

How it works

The system operates on an as-needed basis, detecting when a freezer is warmer than the desired target temperature. This triggers a flow of liquid nitrogen safely through a pipeline from an outdoor storage tank which is conveyed through heat exchanger coils safely through a pipeline from a storage tank. Circulating air is cooled via contact with these coils regulating the internal temperature within the freezer. Nitrogen fed through the coils is contained within the piping and vented directly into the atmosphere. 

The system is designed to allow for an economically viable process, where nitrogen flow is stopped when extra cooling is no longer required. Additionally designed to allow you to fit it within or mount it onto existing freezers.

Standard Features

BOC’s NITROBOOST mechanical freezer boosting technology is small enough to fit within or mounted on, existing spiral or tunnel freezers. It comes in two different models to suit individual needs. The NITROBOOST BL system was designed specifically for blast-style freezers whereas the NITROBOOST ST solution is targeted at spiral and tunnel freezers. Both models install easily onto existing freezers and boost refrigeration capacity.


NITROBOOST can be retrofitted onto existing freezers allowing for a space-saving design without compromising existing equipment. In addition, it:
