Process overview
Neutral hardening is a heat treatment procedure for steels, with the aim to produce a martensitic microstructure. Neutral hardening is a final heat treatment and mostly performed on ready-made parts. For some low alloy steels, hardening and tempering are already done in the steel rolling mill.
BOC’s Gas and Equipment Solutions
BOC is a world leading supplier of specialist gases and mixtures to create and sustain a controlled atmosphere for hardening. We supply nitrogen, nitrogen / hydrogen mixtures and specialist additives based on your requirements.
Hardening - CARBOFLEX®
CARBOFLEX® heat treatment furnace atmospheres created from nitrogen and hydrocarbon based liquid or gas can be used to replace ENDOGAS or EXOGAS generated atmospheres as a more efficient process gas for hardening & tempering operations.
The protective furnace atmosphere is managed by the CARBOFLEX® control panel and gas train and can be automatically controlled to meet the oxidation or decarburisation objectives of the procedure. BOC offers complete system solutions including methanol injectors, pump and gas mixing and control panels.
